Interior lighting and exterior lighting are responsible for a large portion of energy consumption in the modern home and should be used responsibly to contribute to more environmentally-friendly habits and lifestyle changes. Lightco wants to help our readers purchase eco-friendly lighting and use it efficiently so that they can ‘go green’ in their own homes!
Use LED Bulbs for Efficiency
Firstly, everyone should know by now that LED lights are some of the most energy efficient, long-lasting light bulbs in existence! You should definitely consider swapping out your current light bulbs for LEDs, as they consume less energy and have a much longer lifespan. This simple change can save you an unimaginable amount on your electricity bill, whilst also benefitting the planet at the same time. Our online store has various LED sections throughout our interior and exterior lighting sections…
Watch Out for Wall Warts
Some lighting fixtures that come with cords and switches are sometimes adorned with great big ‘wall warts’ at the end, those big black plugs that are inserted into two-prong outlets and take up a lot of room. Not only that, but these wall warts sap up electricity even when the light is switched off. Where possible, have your light fixture plugs replaced to avoid sapping up electricity. If this is not an option, you can simply unplug the device when not in use, thus cutting back on your energy consumption.
Natural Light is Always the Best
It may seem to go without saying, but the likelihood of an interior light being necessary before approximately 5 p.m. during summer months is very, very low. If the ambient light is sufficient for you to cook, read, work, or even knit by, then you do not need to turn on a light! Do your part for the planet and use natural light as much as possible – it’s free and safe for you and the environment.
Always Switch Off When Unused
This is the golden rule of eco-friendly lighting that we can’t stop emphasising – when lights are not in use they should be switched off. The ants can get around just fine without those lamps burning! Teach your family and friends to be light-conscious, turning off unused lights and electronics in an effort to be more eco-friendly.
Motion Sensor Lights
Motion sensor lights are an excellent exterior lighting solution that does not consume a lot of electricity, on account of the fact that they only turn on when motion is detected. This is a great home security solution as well, as the sudden bright light is likely to scare off potential burglars.
